Mrs. Lopez

Hello My Name Is...

Mrs. Lopez

Owl

WELCOME to my classroom and to first grade!  First grade is an important year in a child's development not only academically but also socially and emotionally.  I will offer my students a balance of learning through exploration, play, research and good ole fashion fun!  This next year is pivotal as we work together to build and develop the foundational skills in reading, writing and math.  Not only we will be focusing on academics but our social skills too.  We will spend the first several weeks working together to build a classroom community that is safe, respectful and that honors each other's differences. We will integrate "Leader in Me" in our classroom to help foster the character traits students need to achieve their goals and reach their potential.

This fall I will begin my 18th year of teaching. Before I joined the Redstone family, I taught full day Kindergarten in a private school for nine years. I moved to RSE in 2012 where I taught third grade for three years. I am entering into my sixth year of teaching first grade. My passion is working with younger children. I love how they light up when they make a new discovery or finally understand that concept that they have been working so hard on. They are active and busy and each day is different and always full of pleasant surprises!

I was born and raised here in Colorado. I graduated from Metro State University in 2002. I will celebrate 19 years of marriage this summer, and I have three beautiful children.  My twins, Evan and Thomas, attend Rock Canyon High School and will be freshmen. I also have a 5 year old daughter, Hannah and she will attend Kindergarten at Redstone in the fall. My family and I enjoy visiting the mountains whenever we get a chance. We also enjoy watching movies, taking bikes rides and cheering on our favorite football team! GO BRONCOS!

I am honored to be your first grade teacher and excited to welcome you to my classroom. We are going to have a wonderful year learning, exploring and making memories.
